What’s On Your CRM Wish List?

By RedHorse Systems | Uncategorized

There’s an old saying that “you can’t know what you don’t know”, and if you haven’t experienced something, you probably don’t know what you are missing. Well, a good CRM system is a lot like that. If you have never used one to improve communication and reduce working time, then it would be difficult for you to understand its benefits.

In fact, abandoning your current arrangements to work in an all-encompassing CRM system may sound like an overwhelming amount of work. And for what? Well, higher profits that will arise from increased efficiencies in time and communication, for one.

wishlistLet’s say your business currently uses Outlook, and you know that it’s not enough. You need to move to a CRM system that lets you keep contact information and communications linked to the lists of individuals and companies you work with. You want the information to be accessible to all appropriate employees, in the same places every time, automatically. And you need to switch over without down-time. Sound impossible? Well, guess what. It’s not.

Drop me a line about what you want from a CRM system. What else is on your wish list?

Best wishes, Connie

What Everyone Ought To Know About Productivity

By RedHorse Systems | Uncategorized

The first step in productivity improvement comes from eliminating time-wasters in your company. And one of the biggest productivity killers I know of today occurs when employees have to switch among different software programs to implement different functions.

And there is no way around it: you need to be able to move smoothly and quickly among all of the tasks and demands in the CRM world today. Think about it in hard dollar terms. We now know that social media – i.e. inbound marketing – gets better results than outbound initiatives, and at a cost that’s 45% lower than traditional activities.

As businesses discover that leads – and real customers – emerge from social media contacts, it is no wonder that “push” (i.e. outbound marketing) is on the decline. It just doesn’t work well anymore.

Integrate it!

Integrate it!

Consider this: two of every three Americans are on the “do not call” list; 86 percent of viewers skip TV ads, and some 44 percent of direct mail goes directly into the waste basket, without ever being opened.

So you’re convinced and want to incorporate social media into your marketing mix. However, if you have to keep getting out of your CRM system to update and manage your Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts, you’re wasting time again. Look instead for software that enables all the social media options to function within its environment. Multi-functionality should be woven into its very fabric to support your online activities, such as marketing campaigns.

Best wishes, Connie

The Truth About Social CRM

By RedHorse Systems | Uncategorized

Social media is a revolution, not fad, and CRM – with or without the word “social” in front of it – is all about creating the best experience possible for your customers. Put them together and they add up to doing different things than you did in a traditional marketing program.

It's a Revolution!

It’s a Revolution!

Once upon a time when people were in the market for items or services, they called someone whose opinion they respected and asked for advice. Families stuck with tried and true brands of food products, clothing and shoes for generations. More recently, younger consumers have copied movie stars’ and rock musicians’ consumption patterns.

Whether yours is a B2C or B2B enterprise, your customers now get most of their information from online sources. People research the field to compare your goods or services with those of your competitors; share that information in discussion groups where they connect with others who have similar interests, and ultimately buy their preferred choices based on an amalgamation of these facts and influences.

To market successfully to this crowd, the question is not if, but how will you incorporate social media into your CRM processes. The more you know about your target audiences and where they are showing up online, the better you will be able to prioritize your social media choices and activities. A highly-customizable CRM system can make this easier for you than one which continually requires switching in and out of various software programs. To make the greatest impact, stay focused within one environment.

What Every Business Needs To Know About Social Marketing

By RedHorse Systems | Uncategorized

If you think that social media is only beneficial for business-to-consumer companies, think again.

What social media has to offer the business-to-business world is exposure, not necessarily direct customer contact. It’s about attracting the attention of referrers, generating leads, and enhancing reputation – not creating transactions. I think about it in terms of the difference between marketing and sales. When my business shows up regularly on social media, it helps people find me because search engines then have a lot more opportunities to find me.

Even if the people with whom you are interacting on social media do not match your client profile exactly, the interaction can still generate many business leads. After all, people talk to people and, in every crowd, there are “connectors” to help spread your message. These are the people whom Malcolm Gladwell (author of “Tipping Point”, etc.) says “link us up with the world … people with a special gift for bringing the world together.”

In fact, research tells us that advice from them (a.k.a. “influencers” or “thought leaders”) is often thought to be more credible than from corporate sources (such as advertising).

I find that when leads turn into real customers, they emerge from social media contacts in this order: first through LinkedIn, then blogs, Facebook, and Twitter, in descending order. Additionally, research now reveals that social media and blogs get three times as much attention (in terms of minutes spent) as email (24% vs. 8%). LinkedIn drives most customers for business-to-business (65%), followed by a company blog (55%).

The Secret to Doing Business Faster, With Less Confusion

By RedHorse Systems | Uncategorized

Research show that you can grow your business better, and faster, by banishing what I call “productive killers”. The number one killer is The Great Scavenger Hunt. You’ve probably played it yourself, when you go looking for information that you are sure you’ve seen just the other day. But that report, letter, business card – or whatever – is not where you thought it was. And no one else seems to be able to locate it. You know because you’ve asked everyone in your department, a few others, too.

The Great Scavenger Hunt

The Great Scavenger Hunt

Some experts claim that most of us spend about two hours a day – some 25 percent of our working time – searching for information that should have been there, and waste another 20 minutes daily recreating information that exists somewhere in the company. In addition, respondents in these studies admitted to using incorrect information about four percent of the time, at least once a week, and half – 50 percent – say that the information that their employers provide has no value to their specific job responsibilities.

What a waste! The best way I know to banish this barrier to productivity is to establish a system that captures just the information each employee function requires, and no more. You will get the biggest bang for your buck through a system that can be tailored to your specific needs, rather than jury-rigging a generic program that only feeds the productivity killer scavenger hunt.

Putting the right information in front of the right employee at the right time eliminates confusion, and enables your people to provide an optimum customer experience. That means your business moves and grows faster.

Business and CRM insights. Straight from the horse’s mouth…

By RedHorse Systems | Uncategorized

As a CRM specialist and a business owner/manager, I know how crucial it is stay abreast of emerging best practices and create ways that are right for my company to act on that information. I want to share what I have learned over the past 20 years and hear about what is important for you.

conniegalligan

I’m hoping that this blog will be a place where people who are interested in doing business better can share information and insights. For instance, we now know that about one-third of the world’s population actively uses the Internet. In addition to personal and social activities, business people also use it to research products and services, and the companies that provide them. To do business better, we have to go to where our customers are.

Opportunities abound for those companies bold enough to reach for them, but success is more subtle. This requires a breadth and depth of understanding and expertise that comes from continuous learning. I hope you will comment on what you see here and keep the knowledge exchange going. I am curious to hear what you are thinking about and what you might like to see in this space. Write soon!
